This is a delightful story about an aging grandfather and his special relationship with his young granddaughter. When she comes to live with her grandfather he is a lonely old man. He falls in love with the wee baby and teaches her all he knows about his home, the forest, the ocean, and the whales as she grows. Finally, when her grandfather becomes too old to do the things of old, she takes over for him. She also develops her own love for the whales that her grandfather found so thrilling and important in his life. While this book is not Christian, it is beautiful in the detail of the pictures and in the story telling. The repetition of certain paragraphs will delight the beginning reader who will be eager to recognize parts of the story as it is read for them again and again. A lovely high quality book over all.
